Denmark Election Upends Venstre's Third Place Prospects
Markets recalibrate as Venstre surges to 92¢ while Moderates gain seat momentum in hung parliament.
Venstre has suffered an unprecedented setback, recording the worst result in the party's history. Both the Social Democrats and Venstre have posted historically disappointing results. Markets are now rapidly repricing these outcomes as final results show projections credited the left bloc with 84 seats in the 179-seat parliament and the right with 78. Neither the red bloc nor the blue bloc can govern alone, and the Moderates are once again at the centre of the government puzzle.
The 68¢ surge in Venstre third place odds to 92¢ and Moderates seat gains jumping 67¢ to 98¢ signal traders are betting on a fragmented parliament where traditional hierarchies collapse. The centrist Moderate party, headed by Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, could become the kingmaker, with 13 seats. That left experienced Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, a former prime minister, in the role of kingmaker. With all 12 parties entering parliament for the first time since 1953, Danish politics has entered uncharted territory.
