Bears Edge Toward Illinois Stay

Chicago Bears' relocation market swings heavily toward staying in Illinois as legislative momentum builds.

The Chicago Bears relocation market is pricing in a growing likelihood they'll stay in Illinois, with "A new location in Illinois" jumping from 29¢ to 63¢. The NFL's stadium committee has scheduled a meeting with Chicago Bears brass during the week of April 27 to hear the latest developments regarding the team's two proposed sites for a new stadium -- Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Hammond, Indiana. The shift comes as "The Bears, actually, yesterday we completed more than three hours – my team did – of discussions with the Bears, very positive discussions – and agreed on a bill that would move forward this morning," Pritzker said. The governor also said Bears CEO Kevin Warren chose not to be in the meeting in which the team and state officials "mostly agreed on a bill." Despite Indiana's aggressive courtship offering the Bears would commit $2 billion toward a proposed stadium project near Wolf Lake in Northwest Indiana, the market is increasingly betting that Illinois will pass the megaproject legislation needed to keep the franchise in-state.
